A cold chamber (often also called cryochamber), is an electrically operated cold application system in a closed room for cold applications/cryotherapy applications and is used as a form of therapy in a wide variety of application areas. Only in the case of an electric cold chamber, in which the body is completely in the cold zone, one speaks of a whole-body cold therapy. For optimal and effective cryotherapy, only high-performance cold chambers with a temperature range of -85 and -110 degrees should be used. This is the only way to guarantee safe and optimal cryotherapy.
The application time and application repetition is determined individually for each user by the RemediCool software/app. Based on data from the medical history sheet and the corresponding application area of each user, the algorithm of the RemediCool software calculates the application time to the second individually for each user.
The cold chamber and cold applications are used in the application areas of new health, beauty health ans sports performance where it has positive effects on many application areas.

The high performance electrical cold chambers have temperatures of real -110°C with low humidity.
Cold applications can be performed up to several times a day. The RemediCool software determines the exact application rhythm individually for each user based on a medical history and the application area.
There are two different modes of operation for cold chambers. First, there are purely electric cold chambers for whole-body cryotherapy, which are used in one- to three-chamber models and temperatures from -80°C – to -110°C. On the other hand, there are cryosaunas operated with nitrogen. In these cryosaunas, whole-body cryotherapy is not possible, because the head and neck area are not in the area of application.
A cold chamber for whole body cold applications is characterized by the fact that the entire body, including the neck and head area are in the cold chamber during the application. During whole body cold therapy, the entire body is exposed to the cold simultaneously and evenly. Cold saunas in which the head and neck area are not in the application area during the application are not cold chambers for whole body cold applications.
The quality of the cold chamber is crucial in order to be able to offer real cold therapy at all. This requires guaranteed and real minus temperatures of at least real -80°C, which must also be kept stable during the cold application. The corresponding temperatures should also be uniform in the entire application room of the cold chamber. Furthermore, the quality of a cold chamber is also essential for the safety of the user. Effective and safe cryotherapy can only be performed in high quality, high performance cold chambers.
Real and effective cryotherapy requires real minus temperatures of at least -72°C during the entire application time. Generally, cryotherapy applications are performed at application temperatures of -85°C for all application areas. The application temperatures of -110°C are used when cold therapy applications are used in clinics and hospitals and spas.
The history of the cold chamber
The development of the cold chamber for therapeutic purposes began over 30 years ago. In Japan, the USA and Russia, the first application tests regarding the effects of low temperatures on the entire human body were carried out as early as the 1970s. Here, nitrogen barrels with a temperature range of about -60°C to -65°C were used. The actual temperatures prevailing on the body were neither consistently nor scientifically verified and documented in the application protocols. The RemediCool Research Center in Cologne is currently working on large-scale application observations and tests in cooperation with students of the Sport University Cologne as well as a scientific and medical expert group to document the mode of action of applications in a cold – chamber at real and stable negative temperatures.
Different cryotherapy systems
True whole-body cryotherapy is only possible in an electrically operated cold chamber. A full body cold therapy requires for the whole body to be inside the cold chamber, including the area of the head and shoulders.
This is not possible in nitrogen cold chambers, since the head must stay outside as it can not be exposed to the inflowing nitrogen.
For an optimal and effective cold therapy application it is important that the cold chamber has powerful aggregates, which can guarantee a stable and real negative temperature, even after dozens of applications.
